We raise a variety of animals on our farm including sheep, chickens, turkeys and pigs. Our sheep are raised using organic methods and are fed on our eleven acre pasture. The first lambs showing up are always the herald for spring here, we enjoy seeing them bouncing along out in the pasture. We sell our lambs for meat in the fall and the ewes produce a medium fine wool that we have had processed at a family run mill in Utah. We raise meat chickens and offer the whole chickens for sell as well as some turkeys. We also raise a few chickens for egg production. The pigs are a great way to make sure garden waste and veggies that are not acceptable are not wasted.
Other animals on our farm include two security dogs that keep the farm safe from large animals to a host of cats that keep the farm safe from the smaller ones.. From the first lambs of spring to the baby chicks showing up in the mail to little kittens running around, we always enjoy the new life that comes on the farm all through the year! |
Oh Sheep!!!!
We raise a small flock of around eight sheep on our eleven acre pasture. Every year we have around sixteen lambs that we raise using organic methods. Our lambs are grass fed and are never fed any grain. Our ewes are all named and we do all of our own sheering. We really enjoy our sheep! The sheep also provide an ample supply of manure to use in our composting which eventually is used to supply the nutrients for our high tunnel growing.
Chicks and TurkeysOur chickens and turkeys are raised inside a brooder until they are four weeks old and then are moved into hoop house style chicken coops. They have access to a large shaded yard where they have lots of space to run around. We supplement their feed with garden waste and unused vegetables from the garden. They are one of our natural composters on the farm!
